Podcast! The Comics

This week, the boys finish the first season of The Newsroom and things get even weirder than usual due to a combination of exhaustion and slapstick humour.  After a few derailing moments, the boys eventually discuss comics they've enjoyed recently, from gender-reversed Riverdale to Frank Castle not being the hero of his own book.  Finally, they discuss the issue of piracy.  In particular, James talks (and Brandon listens tiredly) about how while people should stop shoring up reasons to steal, a bigger issue in many ways is the content owners not making it so tempting to steal in the first place.

It should be noted that their James nor Brandon are educated or employed in this field.

This week, the boys catch up on some of their favourite TV shows, including Gravity Falls and Bunheads, and expound upon their desire to have Alan Ruck come visit them.  After talking about some comics they loved, they move on to the issue of professionaism amongst comics industry professionals and why insulting other people comes off as tacky.

This week, the boys do their weekly wrap-up of the Newsroom and have a lengthy discussion of the comics they loved recently.  At the end, they have a discussion about Marvel NOW! - why it's so exciting to them and why it seems to have learned from the mistakes of the New 52.  This one really goes off the rails, you guys.

This week, the boys recap Brandon's successful iCarly-themed surprise birthday party and James congratulates himself for not ruining the surprise while still acknowledging the part where he knocked down all of the decorations a minute later.  After talking about how The Newsroom has settled down towards the end of its first season, the boys go through the wealth of amazing comics from the last week and talk a bit about MarvelNOW.

Impressively literate listeners might recognize this episode's title.  However, it is not a reference to Shakespeare's greatest stage direction ("Exeunt, pursued by a bear").  It's actually a reference to an upcoming interactive comic project by friend of the show Kelly Sue DeConnick and a pretty amazing-sounding young woman.  Check out her blog post about the project and Tumblr.

This week, the boys reconvene after their initial attempt to record the podcast was obliterated by computer troubles to celebrate one of the Darkest Days of the Year: Brandon's birthday.  That's right!  Brandon is one year older and, for one of only two occasions per year, James is forced to give him a genuine compliment.

Don't worry, tomorrow he'll call Brandon the Cancer of a Nation or something.

In this slightly shorter than usual episode, the boys talk about The Newsroom, Batman & Robin (and why it's wrongly hated), as well as comics they liked recently, including Superman Family Adventures #3, John Carter: The Gods of Mars #5 and the brand-new Hawkeye #1!  Also, James got Brandon a present.
